Wolf in the Sanctuary Release
BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA, May 3, 2025, On 10 June, former folklore, rhetoric, and literature professor turned independent author and freelance editor Robin Schadel brings her home state into her passion for creating worlds and spinning tales where the fantastical and folkloric move side-by-side with the mundane world.
“Stories have always been my life,” Schadel says of her latest novel, Wolf in the Sanctuary. “From telling stories with LEGOs as a child while spending most of my free time at the library, to what I studied at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to what I do now, I love stories, how we connect to others with stories, and how the stories we tell—and those we don’t tell—impart meaning to the world around us. With Wolf in the Sanctuary, I wanted to bring my love of stories into my home state because without Louisiana, this novel wouldn’t exist.”

Schadel brings many of her personal passions and experiences into the novel, which is set in a fictional small town in St. Mary Parish and follows historical romance author Celest Valois as she researches Rougarou tales for an upcoming novel that will be her pivot into gothic fiction, a mirror for her own career pivot.
Robin also brings her love for all the things that haunt the living into this book: the ancient tales whose monsters reveal truths about our fears and our nature, old cemeteries and ghost towns, traditions we refuse to let die, and those secrets we keep hidden for fear of what consequences will emerge from bringing them into the light.
